Days and nights of excess spent cruising the quiet island off the Oakland shoreline, in the flight path of the jet planes and the wake of the ferry boats, smoking and drinking in the darkness amongst the rats in the broken concrete rubble piles, busking for the late-night anglers of tiny sharks and rays, battery-powered light shows, a propensity for shade tents after sundown, ferocious winds on Crown Beach, Dukes of Hazzard-style SUV spinouts in the mud, tall tales and fast times and hearts broken, truth and exaggeration and prevarication, self-preservation vs. self-destruction, hazy times in Santa Cruz, horny tweakers on the sidewalk with no pants, railroad bridges and blood-stained guitars, cigarette butts and broken bottles, the well-lubricated brother-and-sisterhood of the Fireside and Missouri Lounge... from and because of all of this you are presented with another collection of original songs that more or less spells out a nonfictional and autobiographical account of the manner in which the years 2018 and 2019 were largely spent... and spent well....

Can’t keep watching you do this to yourself Don’t bother asking, you need more than my help So keep taking risks and get your hands dirty Live in fast forward, die by your thirty 20, 30, 40... always too early when you’re livin’ dirty 20, 30, 40... live in fast forward, die by your thirty You keep falling and i keep on picking you up Tending your wounds and cleaning your cuts I let you believe in all fresh starts Help you believe, babe, you’re not falling apart So clean up the glass and wash your feet Take out the gravel from between your teeth Throw on a bandage to all that’s wrong So get up now baby, and write a song

I’d like to tell you that i understand the world I’d like to find a hundred dollars in my pocket, too. Wouldn’t it be nice if this had all been planned? Wouldn’t it be something if the fairy tales were true? I never gave half a damn but i got through fine. I did not expect to live this long. Sometimes i ain’t slept and I might just cry from the words of some stupid little song But i still love you, baby, no matter what i say, Yeah, no matter what i do. I still love you, baby, i go out of my way, just to spend a little time with you. And when the magic comes I’m happy like a fresh-born child, like it’s the anniversary of something good. And if it’s bad I’ll still be sad them days have come and gone. Sometimes i just say fuck it and run. But i still love you, baby, I’d be better off dead. Yeah, you know that it’s true. I still love you, baby, keeps me hanging on just to spend a little time with you.

Yesterday i thought of all the time that I’ve wasted Recorded you a love song but immediately erased it See the writing on the wall although i never faced it Metronome masochist, yellow eyes flashing Doesn’t even give a damn whose checks it is she’s cashing Slashes her wrists just to stop her teeth gnashing Clear your head, free your mind, is what she’s always saying Soaks it up like a sponge til the band begins playing Still no matter what she does i know that I’m not staying
